Frequently Asked Questions:
Hardware, Software, General, Manual

Hardware:

  1. Why can't I see the picture on the computer when the software is running?
The Night Guard sensor light must be paired or synchronized to the USB receiver. Please refer to pages 18 and 19 of the installation manual.

  2. Why isn't the light coming on?
The sensor light will only come ON when it is dark enough outside. Please insure that ambient light from a nearby light pole or other object is not shining directly on the sensor light.

  3. What is test mode?
Test mode will allow the light to come ON when triggered in day and night operation. Please refer to page 10 of the installation manual.

  4. Why is the sensor light being triggering when there is no movement seen?
Sometimes objects in nature can trigger the sensor light. Heavy wind moving a nearby tree, reflecting or moving water can cause the light to trigger. This is normal and circuitry in the sensor light will keep this at a minimum.

  5. Can I use more than one camera?
The system is designed to be used with 1-4 sensor lights. These additional lights are available for purchase in the "Buy it now" portion of the web site.

  6. Can I view more than one camera at one time?
Sensor light can be viewed one at a time or in Quad Mode where all 4 images are displayed.

  7. Will my sensor light be OK in the rain or snow?
The sensor light is designed for outdoor use and is resistant to water and extreme weather conditions.

  8. Do I need an electrician to install my sensor light?
It is recommended that the installation work is done by a qualified electrician however, if you feel you could replace an existing fixture it would be no more difficult then replacing the fixture with any other purchased in a home improvement store. The installation manual covers the install process in detail but there are still considerations you may need to address. As in any devise that is connected to household voltage, there are risks of possible electrocution if the correct process is not followed and the voltage has been properly turned OFF at the breaker box. Please see power OFF considerations on page 4 of the installation manual.

Software:

  1. Where are my pictures and recorded videos stored?
During the install process a folder was created for the default location of these stored files. C:\Video is the default location. These files can be moved to any other location from this folder. Please monitor the size of this folder if automatic recording is enabled then you may need to delete old unnecessary files when the folder size becomes too large for your hard disk.

  2. How do I turn off the alarm?
This can be done by switching off the alarm icon within the software application.

  3. The volume of the alarm is too low or too loud.
The volume of the alarm is controlled by your systems master volume. Please adjust your systems volume accordingly.

  4. Can I move these recorded files to another location?
Yes. Once in C:\Video, these files can be moved or copied to any other location.

  5. How do I view or play back the files?
The sill images can be viewed in any picture viewer and the movie images can be viewed in Media Player.

  6. Why is the USB receiver not recognized by my computer?
Please reinstall the driver for the program and try again. The USB receiver MUST be in the same USB port as it was when the program was installed. Please see page 14 of the installation manual for more details.

  7. Can I use more than one computer?
Yes. The USB receiver can be used in several different machines as long as the software program has been installed in those systems.

  8. Why does the USB receiver always have to be in the same USB plug?
This is the USB address that the installation program uses to set up the drivers. It can be moved to a different USB port but the program would have to be reinstalled with the USB receiver in that port. It is USB address dependant.

  9. Can I view the picture from another computer?
Yes, but a network or remote desktop program would have to be used. This can be done in some Windows systems by using remote desktop connection found in the accessory folder of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 professional versions. If this is not available or you do not have the expertise to do this, there are many programs like "Go to my PC" available for this remote desktop connection.

  10. Can I make the picture larger?
The only way to make the images larger is by turning down your systems screen resolution. This can be done on control panel.

  11. Why does the program stop running when my computer sleeps?
The software program requires the computer to be ON when the Night Guard system is in use. The program must be able to access the hard drive to continue operation. Please turn the sleep or hibernate mode of your system OFF when the night guard is in use.

  12. Why is there a short delay in my recorded videos?
There is a slight delay for your system to start recording to the hard drive. The delay would be determined by the speed of your PC. A slower PC will have a slightly longer recording delay. This delay can be as short as 1/2 second and as long as 2 seconds depending on the speed of the installed system.

  13. Can I adjust the image color or brightness?
This can be done in most systems in the options box of the software program. The factory settings are pre-set for a good image in most conditions. For Windows 7, the adjustment is automatic and cannot be adjusted by the user.

  14. If my USB driver doesn’t install with the installation program, which driver should I use?
There are several drivers contained on your install disk and within this web site. The USB driver should automatically be installed with the setup program. If this does not install automatically you will need to know the type of operating system you are using. Window designates the X86 files for all 32 bit systems and the X64 files for all 64 bit operating systems. Windows 2000 will always be a 32 bit driver but for XP, Vista and Windows 7 there will be both 32 and 64 bit operating systems. You can find out what system you are running in the “control panel” under the “system” folder. For example: If your system is a Vista 32 bit version, you would install the Vistax86 driver. If your version of Vista is 64 bit, you would use the Vistax64 bit driver.
